Stamford Raffles is the founder of Singapore. The bronze statue of Raffles is over a century old and the plaza in which it stands is in front of the Victoria Concert Hall and Victoria Theatre in Singapore. The spot was once taken up with a bronze elephant which had been presented by the King of Siam in 1871. (It is now in front of Parliament House.)
This statue was unveiled in 1887 for Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee celebrations, but was brought to this site in 1919.
